WWA classes for young people have been offered since Summer 2002 (Art Students League of Denver and at Lake Middle School, December 2002). Our programs emphasize freedom of expression and creative skills along with chemistry, mechanics and physics, community awareness, and social interactions. WWA programs offer a variety of options from pinhole to digital making it possible for young people in all situations to continue working with photography on their own.
We partnered with the 2003 Summer Artstreet Project with the Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development “Photography & Urban Development”. Artists Randy Brown, Valerie Wolny and Jacqueline Webster worked with 15 teenagers to create a public art piece for an urban project, now shown at the Wellington Webb Building.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS IN PHOTOGRAPHY
PEOPLE, NATURE, SPORTS, SCIENCE, CULTURE
Photography connects to many areas of interest for young people it involves them in the science and craft of working with light, as well as offering interaction and understanding in life experiences that involve people, nature, athletics, science, culture, and of course the powerful inspiration found in fine arts. Our photo programs meet nearly all the Federal learning standards (the “SCANS” parameters).
Many Working with Artists programs do not require a darkroom or we can provide some equipment if space is available. Programs may also take place at our facility in downtown Denver. Please see the detailed description at the link below.
We invite you to consider the benefits of offering our programs on a continuing basis at your school. We have found photography to be a powerful medium for enhancing the goals of public education while offering young people a stimulating afternoon in a “photography club”. The sense of “being something” and belonging to an important group is strong as each participant creates their own unique vision of the world that surrounds us, sharing that vision with the other “members” and faculty.

WWA PHOTOGRAPHY
FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Working with Artists programs for young people incorporate a variety of traditional and hi tech approaches to making photographs. Starting with teaching the origins and principles of photography with a camera obscura and pinhole, our instruction often includes learning the latest processes using digital technologies. Programs are tailored to the needs of the communities we serve, providing options for future exploration of this art by the young participants, no matter what their financial situation might be.
ENTERTAINING AND CHALLENGING
Working with Artists programs for young people capture their imaginations with the magic of techniques that are simple in process while requiring thought and participation.
TEACHING ADULTS TO SEE THE WORLD WITH FRESH EYES
As proven in numerous photographic programs for children, the way children see the world is fascinating. Their visions reveal the things that are important and beautiful to them and to the adults who love them.
UNDERSTANDING BASIC PRINCIPLES
Science, math, physical dexterity, logic, teamwork, individuality, imagination, creativity all these important skills are part of our photography classes. And these elements don't begin to include the importance of the subject matter in pictures taken by young photographers …
