With WWA Executive Director Greg Cradick ~
Get ready for one of the most exciting classes to come to WWA!

This advanced portraiture class is geared for those of you looking to make hard hitting, deep, meaningful portraits.

Get published! Help our partners Susan G. Komen support scientists find a cure for Breast cancer! Empower individuals through your portraits! If this is not enough you will also take your creative portraiture style to a new level! WWA is proud to offer this class as our first in a series of Photographic Mentorships. This is a deep immersion into a side of portraiture that is inspiring, thought provoking, and vital. We begin by pairing you up with breast cancer survivors whom you meet with privately, discuss portrait ideas, then schedule shoots. You will meet as a group and privately with the instructor to confer and critique the work. There will be shooting as a group and privately scheduled. Included in tuition is ample studio time, including use of easy to use lighting equipment. Assistants will be made available to you for hire- they can assist you with your gear and lighting as well. After the class WWA will publish a coffee table style photography book with images culled from the class and sell this book at various galleries and other retail outlets. Other possibilities for exposure of finished work (gallery shows, web use, etc.) will be included in this class. An excellent opportunity for getting your name out there!

Some of the topics learned
from this in-depth class
:

  • We will redefine what a portrait is by looking at the history of portraiture, the varied types of portraiture there are, and your personal interest in the potential of what portraits can say
  • Explore the difference between creating images that describe a person physically and images that describe a person psychologically
  • Look in detail at the planning of a complex shoot where yours is not the only creative voice
  • Learn how to work with models in a different way- not how to simply make them look good, but how to give them their own voice
  • Look at the choices involved in listening to and respecting your model or projecting your ideas onto them
  • Looking at a portrait from a conceptual point of view as opposed to just a pretty picture
  • How to use your technical expertise to accentuate the emotional tone of the image in a deliberate way

Portraits of Courageous Beauty is designed to push you as a photographer and force you to work creatively with your model as a team. There is a behind the lens comfort zone that many photographers have grown accustomed to- we will strive to push you beyond this place and to think outside of the box. Your portraits and your idea of what portraiture is will never be the same after this class.
